OLD FRIENDS

Do you know those days when everything feels like a mystical experience? When everything that happens feels like it happened for a reason, a sign sent from a dimension we may not be able to sense in the everyday hectic. And even if all logic tells you that you made it up and that it’s nothing special, for you it is more than just a coincidence.

Walking down the street on a freezing November day, on a busy street, the street suddenly became very quiet. It was windy and cold. Between the big city buildings, some trees had found their place. Looking at the sky, I saw a leaf from the top of a high tree falling down in perfect harmony, swaying left and right in rhythm, slowly and without any rush, directly towards me. I neither slowed down nor spead up my walk. It felt as if I was watching it for minutes, although it all happened in a few seconds. And the leaf fell right into my hands, exactly in my step, as if I couldn’t have avoided it.

What a beautiful greeting that was, I immediately smiled and felt joy. No, I wasn’t lonely; I felt honored, almost privileged, to have such old friends.

How long did that leaf wait for someone to deliver its last message of the year? How long did it fight to stay at the top of the tree, not letting the cold, the winter, or the wind defeat it? And now it falls into my hands. That cannot be just a coincidence. And my joy is not a coincidence either. I don’t want to believe it is. I want to believe that trees, animals, people, sunshine, and all the frequencies speak to us in this way. Moments I will never forget, a message meant only for those who can receive it, and it’s up to us what we will do with it.

And this photograph, and these words, are simply my way of telling it: your message will travel even further, and spring will come, for you and for me.
